Hola and gracias por su pregunta! In the U.S. under federal law wearing headscarf is protected behavior. However, under some state laws it can be illegal to wear the headdress in public places, but these laws are very rarely enforced. I think for many people the main issue is security and the ability to identify a person in public is important in this current era of terror. Also, there is an element of fear and misunderstanding of the reason for covering their head or face. Like many issues, there needs to be a balance between liberty and security, and this may lead society to restrict some religious practices for the security of the community.
Interesting topic, what is your opinion about the prohibition of the niqab and the burqa? Is the right to religious freedom affected? What would be the core of “freedom of worship”?
Greetings from Peru!
